We invite you to join us as we build on the accomplishments of the last 10 years. We look forward with anticipation that, with your support, the goals and initiatives for the Next Decade of Excellence will be achieved.
Since opening to the public in May 1992, the Japanese American National Museum has grown to be a national and international leader in sharing the important lessons learned through the Japanese American experience. In those 10 years, the institution has addressed a broad spectrum of complex issues that touch the lives of people around the world. At no time has the work of the National Museum been more important than in the days after September 11. As the Japanese American National Museum looks to a new decade, it reaffirms its commitment "to transform lives and strengthen community through the exploration of diverse histories, arts and cultures."
The National Museum has identified four initiatives—Education, Preserving the Nisei Legacy, Arts, and International—that inextricably link culture, community and artistic expression to the mission of our institution. Through these initiatives we will collaborate with communities to shape a multifaceted program of exhibitions, research, collection acquisitions, public programs, educational curricula and media arts projects.
