Through a Diamond is a 100-year history of Japanese American baseball that captures the events, teams, players, and untold stories of the Issei, Nisei, and Sansei-Yonsei eras in baseball.

The most interesting part to me was that some of the teams that my team, the Li'l Tokio Giants, play against today were started before World War II, such as the Florin Athletic Club, Lodi Athletic Club and the San Fernando Aces. And some of their players are fourth-fifth generation. It's amazing! Over Labor Day in 2002, the California State Nisei AA Baseball Tournament will celebrate its 50th Anniversary, with games in Southern California. These Yonsei and Gosei players will be playing.

This book is a must for baseball and sports fans because it tells the stories of Japanese Americans as part of the overall U.S. history of our National Pasttime.

- Buddy Takata is a Volunteer Docent at the Japanese American National Museum. He is also a serious fan of Japanese American baseball and has followed or been involved with the sport for over 60 years, including today in the Nisei Athletic Union (NAU) AA League.
