Used by permission of Arnold Fujita © 2006
Traditionally symbolic of Boys’ Day, the koinobori has become an icon for all children and is flown on Children’s Day (May 5).
The koinobori (carp) on this shirt was designed in 1956 by graphic designer Arnold Fujita to celebrate the re-dedication of Shonien, the Japanese Children’s Home of Southern California. The Japanese American National Museum is pleased to reissue Fujita’s design in honor of the Children7rsquo;s Courtyard. 100% cotton.
